This web site on the hero Hercules was created by the staff of the Perseus Project, a digital library on ancient Greece, with some contributions by Andrew Slayman, Associate Editor at Archaeology Magazine. Much of this web site's content is excerpted from resources in the Perseus library.

English translations and ancient Greek texts of 31 authors, including Homer, Sophocles, Aristotle, and Plato, are available on the Perseus CD-ROMs, and now on a World Wide Web site. The library also includes an illustrated catalog of over 2300 ancient Greek art objects, including vases, sculpture, and coins, as well as a site and architecture catalog with site plans, drawings, and photographs. There are over 25,000 photographs in the Perseus library. Perseus contains many other resources, including a GIS-based atlas of the ancient world, an overview of Greek history, morphological and grammatical tools, an encyclopedia, and secondary essays.

The Perseus Project's editor-in-chief is Professor Gregory Crane of the Tufts University Classics Department. The Project is wholly funded by grants and support from the Annenberg/CPB Project, the National Science Foundation, Apple Computer, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Packard Humanities Institute, the Getty Grant Program, Xerox Corporation, Boston University, Harvard University, and the Fund to Improve Post-Secondary Education.

Perseus is a non-profit enterprise based in the Classics Department, Tufts University.
